S.T.E.A.M.

We believe in providing children with every tool they need to serve the future they will create, and our innovative, modern S.T.E.A.M. program is designed to spark children's curiosity, challenge them to create solutions to difficult questions, and use their imaginations to solve problems affecting the world. Each month, we focus on a specific topic from the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math, providing the opportunity for students to develop a new passion and deeper understanding in a variety of areas.

SPANISH

All of our classrooms include materials in both English and Spanish. Ms. Vanessa, our Early Childhood guide, is a native Spanish speaker and  received her Montessori training and taught in Costa Rica. She has taught children Spanish in dual-language immersion schools in the community. In addition to the Spanish-language materials and conversational Spanish curriculum, she will provide weekly Spanish lessons in all of our classrooms.

PEACE & SERVICE

At The Little Montessori School, peace curriculum is intrinsic to every aspect of learning. Younger children receive lessons in grace & courtesy, from how to carefully walk around a friend who is working on a rug, to how to tell someone that they would like to be alone. All of our classrooms have "Peace Corners," which children can access freely for a moment of calm engaged in a peaceful activity or quiet self awareness. Our elementary students design and implement service projects, and practice conflict-resolution through student-facilitated peace meetings.

CULTURAL STUDIES

We are committed to creating an environment where our children develop the skills necessary to be successful global citizens.  To better understand the forces that shape the world around us, our cultural studies program aims to expose students to a wide variety of places and ways of life.  As educators we want children to see how their roots can be traced back to places that span around the globe.  Through art, music, stories, language, and foods, our children can “travel the world” and be inspired to continue learning more about the people and world around them.  We aspire to sow the seeds of community by celebrating our diversity, understanding that we are more similar than we are different, and respecting each other as human beings.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

Children engage in weekly sign language lessons on a variety of topics to introduce them to another language and empower them to express themselves.  ASL is one of the most widely used languages in the US today and is associated with many benefits, particularly in younger children.  Studies have shown that children who learn ASL have higher reading levels, increased spatial reasoning, and heightened reasoning skills when compared to their non-ASL peers.

MUSIC & MOVEMENT

Musical activities are included in the daily life of the Montessori classroom and respected as much as other curriculum subjects. All of our guides are trained in Music & Movement, and they integrate music into everyday activities through song, movement, instruments, music appreciation, the Montessori Bells, and Walking on the Line to music.  Research shows that music is fundamental in early childhood education, helping children to develop in various ways, including problem-solving and logic skills. Language acquisition is enhanced as children learn songs with varied vocabulary, meter, and rhyme. Cultural lessons are enriched with songs about continents, planets, respect for Earth, and much more.
